Beautiful in your own way

Women are such beautiful beings.

But 1 thing that kinda screws things up.

Insecurity that leads to jealousy.

I think we are all insecure in many ways but when it comes to the point where you have to take out your insecurities on another person, that is going overboard.

Putting others down so that you can feel better about yourself is not the best way to build self confidence.

Even worse, trying to build relationships on lies so that you'll feel better about yourself. That is totally unacceptable.

You are beautiful in your own way.

We all are. I'm struggling with it too.

I am the most insecure person out there.

I feel so uncomfortable in crowds.

I am always afraid of screwing up relationships and friendships.

That is why I like being on my own.

I am so hard on myself when it comes to the work that I produce.

Everything I create sucks in my eyes.

I feel ugly.

I feel stupid.

But I'm trying really hard to get out of bed every morning and be positive.

And live the day with a smile on my face.

Its not easy at all but hopefully it'll help me be a little bit more confident about myself.

We all have issues.

Lets do the world a favor and be kind to others.

Its been an intense month with exploring technology and all things digital.

You know what I've come to conclude?

This whole thing that we're living in / living for / heading towards is really sad.

We spend our whole lives sitting at a desk, staring into a screen.

Exactly what I've been doing for the past 10 hours of my day today. Maybe even more.

It is draining the life out of us.

Funny to hear this from a digital media student.

We are like perfectly oiled machines.

Trained to crave for knowledge since the day we were born.

Then brought up by the societies of the world to strive to achieve greatness, fame, acknowledgement.

And the reward of that is self-fulfillment, contentment, pride, joy.

You proved your worth.

But at the end of the day, does this really matter?

Sometimes it takes being lost and feeling out of place to learn the biggest lessons.

Or to trigger that ultimate idea.

I find it so fascinating. Matching up the most unlikely elements and achieving harmony.

Taking 2 things that don't normally belong together and making it great.

So familiar yet so authentic at the same time.

Kinda have an element of surprise too.

Hello Everyone!

I haven't updated this blog since I left Malaysia.

Wow. Things have really changed for me. A lot!

I don't even know how to start describing it.

Its been about 2 and a half months here in Stockholm.

Summer is gone, Autumn and the cold is slowly creeping in.

Now we're working on a module called Exploring Technology.

We will be building an interactive game installation from scratch which will be showcased at the Hyper Island Exploring Technology Exhibition 2011 in Stockholm town.

Gonna keep this blog a little more personal and not talk about the details here ;)

So whats up?

Summer at Stockholm was beautiful!

Met so many wonderful/passionate/creative people here at Hyper Island.

The first few weeks here were filled with lots of partying, drinking and just hanging out with the other international students.

The weather was perfect so we spend a lot of time outdoors and in parks.

I have also found a place to live. A room to rent just a few T-Bana stops away from school.

Takes approximately half an hour to get from home to school.

I love my room because for once in my life, I have a view ;)

A really beautiful view of the lake and the city in the distance.

Just like a dream.

I've got what I was always looking.

To learn to live on my own and be independent.

To have nothing and no one but myself.

To make the best out of it and make it work.

It gets really lonely at times and I miss everyone at home.

A feeling that is so hard to describe.

I have so many people around me here but I still feel a little alone.

But I'm dealing with it better and better by the day.

It almost feels natural now and I'm feeling good :)

I don't know if I will be the same person I was before if I went home now.

This whole experience so far taught me so many lessons.

Lessons that I never could have learned if I didn't leave home.

It's more than amazing.

I'm glad to be here :)

Dear all,

I'm sorry for being out of touch with my blog for quite some time now. I was very busy the past few weeks getting all matters sorted out for my move to Stockholm. It was nail-biting waiting for my Student Permit to be approved. Finally got it just a few days before my scheduled flight!

I am here in Stockholm now and I have created a new blog about all that is going on both at Hyper Island and also Stockholm. I will still update this blog once in a while regarding the more private matters ;)

Top 10 Myths About Introverts

Myth #1 – Introverts don’t like to talk.
This is not true. Introverts just don’t talk unless they have something to say. They hate small talk. Get an introvert talking about something they are interested in, and they won’t shut up for days.

Myth #2 – Introverts are shy.
Shyness has nothing to do with being an Introvert. Introverts are not necessarily afraid of people. What they need is a reason to interact. They don’t interact for the sake of interacting. If you want to talk to an Introvert, just start talking. Don’t worry about being polite.

Myth #3 – Introverts are rude.
Introverts often don’t see a reason for beating around the bush with social pleasantries. They want everyone to just be real and honest. Unfortunately, this is not acceptable in most settings, so Introverts can feel a lot of pressure to fit in, which they find exhausting.

Myth #4 – Introverts don’t like people.
On the contrary, Introverts intensely value the few friends they have. They can count their close friends on one hand. If you are lucky enough for an introvert to consider you a friend, you probably have a loyal ally for life. Once you have earned their respect as being a person of substance, you’re in.

Myth #5 – Introverts don’t like to go out in public.
Nonsense. Introverts just don’t like to go out in public FOR AS LONG. They also like to avoid the complications that are involved in public activities. They take in data and experiences very quickly, and as a result, don’t need to be there for long to “get it.” They’re ready to go home, recharge, and process it all. In fact, recharging is absolutely crucial for Introverts.

Myth #6 – Introverts always want to be alone.
Introverts are perfectly comfortable with their own thoughts. They think a lot. They daydream. They like to have problems to work on, puzzles to solve. But they can also get incredibly lonely if they don’t have anyone to share their discoveries with. They crave an authentic and sincere connection with ONE PERSON at a time.

Myth #7 – Introverts are weird.
Introverts are often individualists. They don’t follow the crowd. They’d prefer to be valued for their novel ways of living. They think for themselves and because of that, they often challenge the norm. They don’t make most decisions based on what is popular or trendy.

Myth #8 – Introverts are aloof nerds.
Introverts are people who primarily look inward, paying close attention to their thoughts and emotions. It’s not that they are incapable of paying attention to what is going on around them, it’s just that their inner world is much more stimulating and rewarding to them.

Myth #9 – Introverts don’t know how to relax and have fun.
Introverts typically relax at home or in nature, not in busy public places. Introverts are not thrill seekers and adrenaline junkies. If there is too much talking and noise going on, they shut down. Their brains are too sensitive to the neurotransmitter called Dopamine. Introverts and Extroverts have different dominant neuro-pathways. Just look it up.

Myth #10 – Introverts can fix themselves and become Extroverts.
Introverts cannot “fix themselves” and deserve respect for their natural temperament and contributions to the human race. In fact, one study (Silverman, 1986) showed that the percentage of Introverts increases with IQ.

I slept the whole afternoon. Been getting dizzy spells recently.

The aurora borealis is a natural light display in the sky.

It appears close to the polar regions - arctic & antartic, and is caused by the collision of charged particles directed by the earth's magnetic field.

What a spectacle!

We are living in the age where almost nothing is impossible.

With the emphasis on technological advancement and our never ending greed for information,

have we forgotten our children?

Kids these days are information rich, but emotionally poor.

We constantly feed them with so much information about how this world works and on top of that, we allow the internet and the unruly mass media to feed them too.

But what are we doing to nurture that innocent emotional side of a child that doesn't even have a chance to bloom?

I think we ought to take a step back and re-evaluate the priorities of our families and society.

Giving a child information education is important for their future but equally as important, to give a child emotional support and helping to develop their emotional intelligence ensures that he or she would have a strong foundation to build that future on.

I like watching people.

The way people carry themselves.

The way they react to situations.

How different people react to insults, compliments, stress, emotions etc.

Their body language when they are interacting with others.

Their confidence.

As much as I am inclined to observe men (nyehehe), I actually enjoy observing women more.

The complexity of a women's behaviour is very interesting.

Women are God's gift of beauty to mankind.

So what makes a woman beautiful? In my humble opinion.

I know this might sound very cliche, but I honestly see all women as beautiful.

Some may not be as physically attractive as the other, but there is always something about a woman's spirit that oozes beauty, in its many different forms.

If every woman is beautiful, what makes one exceptionally beautiful?

It is a combination of these three values.

LOVE, PASSION & HUMILITY.

LOVE - She is free to love. She is not afraid to love. Not just in a romantic way, but she loves and genuinely cares for the people around her. She does almost everything out of love. Out of love for her friends, family, the environment etc.

A truly beautiful women not only loves the people around her, but she loves and knows how to embrace herself too - her flaws, imperfections and tries to be the best woman she can be. She is not afraid to be herself, even if it means not fitting in. She doesn't fit in much but people still love and respect her because she is honest and true to herself.

PASSION - She stands out because of her silent perseverance. She is passionate about the work she does. She gives a 110% in every task that she is assigned. She does not complain excessively or dwell in self pity. She accepts. She goes with the flow. She keeps pushing forward. She relies on her passion to do good and bring change for the people around her.

HUMILITY - This is the greatest value of all the three. She knows she is beautiful in her own way but she does not boast. She knows she is successful, but yet she doesn't scream of her successes. She speaks of words that will build others and not to tear them down. She does not judge, she accepts. She does not try to build her reputation on the weaknesses of others. She is humble in her gestures and demeanure - in the way she carries herself. She chooses to be invisible, but her invisibility is a glowing ball of light. No one can miss it. Beauty is not physical anymore, I think it comes from the humble spirit within.

She has a heart of a lion but the grace of a swan.

Her fire keeps you warm. It does not scorch.

Her smile brightens your day.

Because she smiles not for herself, but for you.

She is exceptionally beautiful.

I am very lucky to have met a few women who are exceptionally beautiful in this way.

I strive to be more like them and they are my greatest inspiration as a woman.

No More R.E.S.P.E.C.T.

Dear Malaysian Politicians,

With regards to this article I found on thestar.com.my, I would like to say that I am so ashamed by the comments made by you and the government that you run. Do not judge and generalize people because of what you think YOU KNOW. I will be very honest with you. You do not think with a sound and rational mind. Not very smart, to say the least. You are corrupted beyond imagination and you do not have the right to comment on whether our rakyat deserves to vote or not, especially when the reason being that they are overseas, therefore they don't love our country. How the hell could you even bring up such a childish topic to the press?

For your information, we all (at least the most of us) love our country so very much. For me, the reason why I want to leave is not because I don't love Malaysia. I do. With all my heart. But resources for knowledge and the freedom to experience and learn is so limited here. Governed by ridiculous rules and inequality. We have bigger dreams. Dreams that our country cannot provide us the platform to achieve. Not yet. Not now. Never, if we don't come together and fight for a change.

I'm sick and tired of the way our government deals with issues that are facing our country. I'm sick and tired of all the hierarchy. I'm sick and tired of the way they play around with race and religion to gain popularity. I'm sick and tired of the inefficiency of our government services, the corrupted legal system, the cheapskate police force that we can never trust.

One day in the future when these old skool politicians eventually step down from their monopolized positions at their dying beds (the opposition will never win... they never can... they are not allowed to), maybe that is when the "overseas Malaysians that don't love Malaysia" will come back and make a change, hand in hand with our brothers and sisters back home. We will come back to help educate our generations to come. To give them hope. That they too, have the right to dream big and make it big on the international stage. We must love our homeland but we don't have to love the shit that our government is feeding us. We have the right to hope and work towards a better future.

Look at Jimmy Choo, Michelle Yeoh, and the many other Malaysians that went abroad to pursue their dreams. To achieve something no Malaysian even dare to dream. Now, they are great ambassadors for our country. They are proud to be Malaysians and Malaysians everywhere are so proud of their achievements. For their determination and hard work. They started out just like us but look at where they are now. They are an inspiration to all of us.

I will always be proud to be Malaysian but I am hoping for a change.
For a government that is fair and just. That will not embarrass our entire nation with their childish and fucking lame antics. Especially when elections are drawing close. Sex tape here and there. Sodomy charges. I think that is just bullshit. I can't even bring myself to read the news. I feel so embarrassed. Please stop looking out for your own self and start running the country like how you should. Where the well-being / development of our country and rakyat comes first. Rakyat as in every single Malaysian, regardless of race or religion. Please stop the nonsense, I beg you.

This might look like a badly polluted / toxic-filled river but....

it is actually a yearly event at Chicago River, USA, celebrating St. Patrick's Day!

they have been doing this for the past 4o years!

What a way to make a statement!

An interesting approach. Out of the ordinary.

The Americans are crazy and I love that about them :)

The RIVER CREW pours in 40lbs of dye into the Chicago River on St. Patrick's Day, lasting a few hours. They use vegetable dyes that are not harmful to the enrironment but I'm not too sure about that. That shade of green just look dangerous to me! haha.

The Beginning

Today is the start of a future I could only have dreamnt of.
For an average girl like me.

From an average Malaysian family.

Coming from a city relatively unknown in the eyes of the world,

to a city known to produce genius designers and revolutionary thinkers.
Now I see the bigger picture.

Why things happened the way they did.

Why I had to fail again and again and again.

Why I had to go through certain heartbreaks in order to realize what I had to do and what I need to do.

I was knocking on the wrong door.

All the disappointments and the times feeling so discouraged and useless,

it is all worth it now :)

From the person who designed the Twitter Logo...

to the man who won an MTV Video Award for 'best special effects' for Lady GaGa's 'Telephone' video...

the graduate who won a Lion at Cannes..

and the student who won a Crunchie Award alongside competitors like Google and Facebook...
This is the place where some of the world's most influencial creative talents started out.

and I am so honoured to be accepted to be a part of their community.

Its really difficult to accept it when you've been working so hard for something and when the time comes to prove your worth, you fuck up.

Oh gosh.

Its still playing in my head.

Can't sleep.

Can't think about anything else.

Just thinking about what I could have done so much better.

This means alot to me.

I always choke when I speak.

I just can't get whats on my mind, out of my mouth.

Those sentences are so hard to phrase.

Words seem to jumble up.

I suck at public speaking.

Or just speaking in any form.

But there is nothing that I can do anymore right now.

It is not in my hands anymore.

I just hope that the quality of my work will speak louder than my jumbled up words.

What defines a good year?

How do you measure the value of a year well lived?

For me, being totally honest, this year was filled with a lot of uncertainty, indecision, unwise decisions, failure, solitude, financially broke, lack of progress in everything, heartbreak, total lost of confidence in myself and also in the things that I should be able to do.

But I would like to say... 2010 had been the best thing that has ever happened to me.

How great a year does not rely solely on our achievements. Or how much success we are able to grasp in the palm of our hand. Nor how much money we are able to multiply in our bank accounts.

This is one of the greatest years in my life because I failed. In so many ways. It really broke me down. But in mourning my failure, comes a greater understanding of my weaknesses.

In understanding my weaknesses, I have learned to be humble and accept myself for who I really am.

I am very far from being a success.

But all the pain and disappointments fuels me to go all out to get there.

All the disappointments are blessings in disguise.

And I am still very thankful for everything in 2010.

Very thankful to have the people who still accepts me even at times when my weaknesses take over.

Very thankful for friendships and the experiences that came with it.

Very thankful for the many humbling lessons learned.

I guess everything that life throws at you, somehow you've got to make it work.

and just keep living and believing in your dreams.

if you fall, brush it off, get back up and keep moving forward.

Never take things too seriously and always be ready to make a fool out of yourself. ;)

I guess I kinda fulfilled my 2010's resolution.

it was to be unemployed for as long as I can. :P And to take the time to discover what I really love to do.

For 2011,

now that I know which direction I should take, I want to prove that I am capable to do what I've set out to do and hopefully to make a difference in my own way. :)

oh and of course, to have loads of fun in the process!

I've started off this year with a bang!

hope I'll end it with a supernova :P

ahahahaha.

D'espresso Cafe, New York. Designed by Nema Workshop.

There are quite a few cafes/restaurants/bars with library themes these days.

I guess libraries are somehow appealing because it makes us all feel warm and fuzzy and cozy, surrounded by a whole ocean of information with the thoughts and life stories of the many many people that have came before us. I love libraries :)

But this Cafe by Nema Workshop is different!

Yes it is library themed, but it is turned sideways.

Inspired by nearby Bryant Park Library.

Its floor, back wall and ceiling are lined with books printed on custom tiles.

The left wall is covered with dark brown herringbone flooring.

On the right wall, illumination through frosted glass and round pendant lamps protrude sideways from the wall to create the illusion of a ceiling that has been rotated to its side.

I love this idea :)

Sometimes, it takes a dose of quirkiness to make an impact. Actually not just sometimes, its most of the time. If you want to be viewed differently, you have to be different. In your thoughts, in the things that you do, in the way you approach the challenges life brings.

You cannot be controlled by what the media and the world wants you to think.

You've got to be controlled by YOU. By nature and the essence of your thoughts when interacting with your surroundings. We react the way the world wants us to. We don't even know it. Its a subconscious thing.

Choice Making

What defines us are the choices that we make.

There are too many decisions to be made and I am kinda lost in a sea of uncertainty at the moment.

Every decision that I eventually make, will have a chain effect.

And it goes in opposite directions.

How would I know which road would be best for me?

There is a big part of me that I would have to give up either way.

Which part of me am I willing to let go?

There are things that I would really love to do.

But reality hits hard.

It hits really really hard.

We cannot always have everything that we want.

What makes us think that we are that special to get everything that we want?

What makes us think that we are deserving?

Because we are brought up in a comfortable environment with food on our tables and air-conds in our room doesn't make our dreams more important and more deserving than the dreams of the people living on the street. People who don't know when will they have their next meal. And here we are complaining about our spaghetti carbonara not tasting so good. Being all down and emo because we cannot travel to beautiful places while our peers can. Throwing a fit when we cannot have a certain dress that we would die for.

We're just a little more blessed. Nothing more than that.

I've failed to see how blessed I am.

And I've been dreaming so big. Wanting more and more and just being plain selfish.

I'm becoming a person I've sworn never to become.

Being so selfish and lost all humility.

Focusing so much on myself and my desires that I've been neglecting the people around me.

Especially the people that really care for me and love me.

What defines us are the choices that we make.

Do we make selfish choices?

Some of the best decisions that I've made in my life are based on wanting to help others rather than for my own satisfaction. I don't really get what I want and desire out of it but somehow, it brings even greater warmth and it makes me happy. Isn't that what we truly want in life? To be happy?

Maybe I should consider making more decision that way.

When one door closes, another opens.

Some doors open.

We fail to see.

Or we don't even bother to take a look.

We keep staring and trying to push our way through a door that just won't budge.

We put so much focus on it. In trying to break in one particular door.

It becomes an obsession.

We would do anything for it. Give up everything else.

While other doors just nearby open their arms freely and hoping to embrace us.

But we're just not interested.

Not even interested to take a peek and see what it has to offer.

It could be something greater than what we could ever dream of.

But we don't care.

Stubborn.

One good friend of mine once told me, "Opportunities come and go very swiftly. When it passes by make sure you grab it. That might be your one and only chance... it might never cross your path again... ever."

I think its time for me to step back and re-evaluate what are my strengths and weaknesses. What I am good at and what I am not. What I really love doing. And if I am doing certain things for certain people. The answers are all there. Now its just time for me to be completely honest with myself.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I know its a popular American tradition to celebrate Thanksgiving. With the feasting and turkey. Ooooo. Turkey!! ( mmmm. can't wait for Christmas!! I'm really lucky to have a family where Christmas is the main highlight of the year :D )

And also the family gatherings.

I think its a wonderful tradition.

Something like the scale of Chinese New Year, Hari Raya or Deepavali in Malaysia i guess?

But thanksgiving is not like a religious festival (it originated from a religious festival tho..). Its just a day for families to come together and just be thankful for anything and everything in their lives.

So today, in conjunction with the American Thanksgiving Day, I would like to be thankful for all that I have in my life to date. So lets begin.... hehehehe.... I think this is going to be loong.....

I'm thankful for my friends who stick by me and want to watch me grow in the right direction even when I am such an ungrateful ass at times. For all the laughter and the memorable moments. For just being there and for being the wonderful people that they are. I am eternally grateful to all of you. You mean the world to me. :)

I'm thankful for the beautiful weather here in Malaysia. It gets super hot sometimes! but its been great these few weeks with the rain showers. I love the rain (only when I'm indoors) ;P

I'm thankful for GMAC Realtors. I've changed quite a bit these few months because of the experiences I've had there. If only I could face my fears and work harder and do better.

I'm thankful for the Internet. My lifelong learning and entertainment partner. A geek wouldn't be a geek without his/her obsession with technology and the Internet. ;D

I'm thankful for the glorious food in Malaysia!! :D oooo. char kuey teow, nasi lemak, asam laksa, nasi goreng tomyam/belacan/kampung/semua pun ada, chicken rice! satay! fuiyoh...

I'm thankful for the opportunity to travel to faraway lands and the unforgettable experiences that will forever be embedded in my heart.

The Story of the Mexican Fisherman

An American businessman was standing at the pier of a small coastal Mexican village when a small boat with just one fisherman docked. Inside the small boat were several large yellowfin tuna. The American complimented the Mexican on the quality of his fish.

“How long it took you to catch them?” The American asked.

“Only a little while.” The Mexican replied.

“Why don’t you stay out longer and catch more fish?” The American then asked.

“I have enough to support my family’s immediate needs.” The Mexican said.

“But,” The American then asked, “What do you do with the rest of your time?”

The Mexican fisherman said, “I sleep late, fish a little, play with my children, take a siesta with my wife, Maria, stroll into the village each evening where I sip wine and play guitar with my amigos, I have a full and busy life, senor.”

The American scoffed, “I am a Harvard MBA and could help you. You should spend more time fishing and with the proceeds you buy a bigger boat, and with the proceeds from the bigger boat you could buy several boats, eventually you would have a fleet of fishing boats.”

“Instead of selling your catch to a middleman you would sell directly to the consumers, eventually opening your own can factory. You would control the product, processing and distribution. You would need to leave this small coastal fishing village and move to Mexico City, then LA and eventually NYC where you will run your expanding enterprise.”

The Mexican fisherman asked, “But senor, how long will this all take?”

To which the American replied, “15-20 years.”

“But what then, senor?”

The American laughed and said, “That’s the best part. When the time is right you would announce an IPO (Initial Public Offering) and sell your company stock to the public and become very rich, you would make millions.”

“Millions, senor? Then what?”

The American said slowly, “Then you would retire. Move to a small coastal fishing village where you would sleep late, fish a little, play with your kids, take a siesta with your wife, stroll to the village in the evenings where you could sip wine and play your guitar with your amigos…”

Kinda makes me re-think about a lot of things.

We work so hard to try to "make it".

In order to achieve a successful and meaningful life.

We fail to see that a great life is not based on riches.

It is about appreciating and embracing our environment as well as being close to the people that we love.

A great life is about leaving material selfishness behind and just embrace life in its most natural form.

That's my personal opinion. :)

I got a place in Florence Design Academy!

With partial scholarship!

Today is the last day to confirm my seat.

But I can't go :'(((

My parents say its too dangerous.

What my mom says is true. I don't know a single person in Italy.

What if something happens to me?

I got no one to turn to. With the language barrier. That makes it even worse.

It's sad. I really wish I could go. :(

How come I couldn't do what I can do today?

Because I never took the initiative.

All great achievements start with an idea.

But what gets it to the top, is the initiative to make it happen.

I'm working towards something in about 2 months time.

I really hope I got what it takes.

Wait no.... I'm gonna have what it takes.

Gonna really work my butt off this time until I've got what it takes! :)

I guess its the Universe's way of saying....

"you deserve much better and you have the makings to accomplish something much greater than that."

Sometimes we fail to see our own potential.

We don't even know its there.

Right now, I'm trying to find mine.

I don't really know what it is yet.

But I know I am here in this world for something.

I had a dream last night.

That I was in New York :)

City of bright lights.

I think I was on holiday.

My family was there. I think it was my brother's birthday.

We went out to eat and we bought his friends dinner.

After dinner everyone was too full to move.

It was night.

I wanted to see the lights at Times Square.

So I headed out.

Naj was there as well as the 2 girls from India. :D

He said he knows how to get there so we followed him.

We walked and walked and we went the wrong direction and ended up in a quieter part of town. We saw a grand historical colonial building.

I thought it was a church or something.

But when we got nearer, there was a Punjabi guard and we saw the sign 'Bangkok Hotel'.

hahaha. How random!

So we carried on walking, taking another road. Following Naj.

It was quiet and getting quite scary but out of the corner we bumped into some people gathered around some cardboard cut-out cars, buildings, trains, big cupcakes and gingerbread men.

They were taking photos. It was some sort of art exhibition.

Okay that didn't really interest us so we continued walking heading to Times Square.

We walked into a night market. Pasar Malam style. In New York! hahaha.

They were selling clothes, and food, vegetables, fruits, meat, fish...

One stall caught our eyes. Imported fish from Malaysia.

We were so impressed and felt so close to home in a faraway land!

There was even a sign. Ringgit accepted.

So one of the India girls bought some fish.

Then we went on to look for Times Square.

Didn't actually managed to get there in the dream.

I woke up to the sound of my phone beeping. sms.

And I was running late for work!

I do hope that I can go there for real someday.

And see Times Square with my own eyes. :)

I'm always trying to find an easy way out.

A short-cut.

U know... something that makes things a little more simple.

Less hassle.

Less complications.

Less work.

The fastest way to make the "ka-chingg".

The fastest way to go see the world.

I give myself credit for being super creative in searching for the easiest ways out. hahaha. ;P

But what does these decisions do for me in the long run?

Today I gave someone this advice....

"There is never an easy way to make money(legally). You really want to get rich? you work your butt off......"

Maybe it's time I start to listen to my own advice, huh? hehehe. :)

I admit, I can be quite the slacker at times.

Always finding excuses to justify my slacking nature :P

My room's too messy?? no it's not. I find clutter beautiful :P hahaha. (but its true! I do find beauty in imperfection...)

Well.... what I'm saying is....

I think it's time I start investing in something that I really love to do and take it seriously.

I know it's gonna be the toughest ride but hey, Donald Trump or Bill Gates or Philippe Starck or Zaha Hadid or Tim Burton or Steven Spielberg or even Beyonce didn't get to where they are today sitting in their bedrooms Facebook-ing all day long.... (FYI : that's exactly what I'm doing right now :P hahahaha.)

I see my dreams ahead of me.

So far away.

Trying to find a way to get there.

I give up every single day.

I think I'm useless and talent-less in this field.

But then, somehow I find the hope again. Every single day.

And I believe that I've got what it takes to make it.

It's been going on like this for a while. These ups and downs.

But I'm trying to stay focused and positive.

I know as much as I am struggling with my dreams and life, you who is reading this is going through the exact same situations. We are all human and we all have to go through this.

Just don't stop dreaming.

Even if you think you suck at it.

Even if people tell you that you are crazy.

Even when it seems impossible.

There is nothing more fulfilling than going out there and trying to do something that you love.

Even if you don't make it big, even if you cannot make a single cent out of it,

at least you know that you have tried.

And that you devoted your time to something that you believe in.

That you are passionate about.

There won't be regrets.

Some of the worlds greatest people started off being small and insignificant.

But they didn't let anything get in the way of their dreams.

And that is what makes the difference.

It's been a while since I last posted something here.
Thank God for friends. New friends and also old friends. :)
Thank God for the wonderful people that I've recently met.
I've been going through a rough time for the past half a year.
Been kinda depressed although I never want to admit that I am.
Disappointments one after another. It's really difficult to stay positive.
Kinda lost my way for a while there.
Contemplating on what I should do.
Some doors close but other doors open.
Thats good but although I like to think myself as an adventurer, I've become quite a habitual person lately so it's kinda hard to move on to something new.
But now that my mind is a bit clearer now, I'm starting to be the explorer again. :)
Opening up my mind to greater things.
I think that once you believe with all your heart that you can do something, you will be able to achieve it. Once you doubt, it will all crumble.
So keep believing :)

The Malaysian International Ice Hockey Tournament was a whole lot of fun last weekend. :)
Met many new people and got to know some hi-bye friends a little more.
It's great. I love the hockey community. Everyone is just so friendly and everyone is like one big family. Doesn't matter where we come from. Malaysia, Thailand, HK, India, Philippines, Singapore, Iran, Canada etc. Thats really nice :)
Congrats to Malaysia's Dexion Wildcats for winning the Asian Division Title 2 years in a row!
This time beating Kuwait 5-4. So proud of you boys! :)

Resident Evil Afterlife.

I know a lot of people say that the movie is bad.

Maybe because the storyline is already so predictable.

But I liked it. :)

I think the cinematography was great.

Some scenes were so beautifully crafted. Surrealism.

I like it. :)

Late night supper with my crazy friends. hehe.

and Daniel the puppy was so cute!

I do miss high school and TBS Foundation days.

Life was so carefree then.

Things are so different now from what it used to be.

What is the best creative advice I’ve ever received?

“Go home and watch more MTV.”

That was what my Art History teacher, Mr. Andy told us to do before we can even dream to be designers. That was about 3 years ago when I was still a “noobie”. I thought it was damn cool that a teacher would advice us to do that because I loved watching MTV! Little did I know, there was a much greater message than what I could comprehend at that stage.

At that time, as my passion was in interior design, my main source of inspiration was the one and only IKEA. I knew the IKEA designs and catalogue from cover to cover, I knew the store so well and the location of the BILLY bookcase, or the KLIPPAN sofa, if this cabinet comes in birch or white or black.

I was a noobie because I sticked to ONE trend. That was all about design that I knew. Scandinavian design. Thats all. I was a staunch follower of a specific trend.

As time goes by, as I constantly push myself to the limit, broadening horizons, being labelled the weirdo, experimenting and learning to understand why beauty comes in so many different packages, I start to see that great design can be anything you want it to be. Depending on where in the world you are, depending on culture, age group, proffession, trends variate a whole lot.

What is astonishing is not design itself, but the brilliant ideas behind it. The backbone/the root. Without a great idea, design crumbles. Design is merely a tool to attract attention to spread an idea. And that intrigues me.

As it was mentioned in Inception 2010,

What is the most resilient parasite?

An IDEA.

A single idea from the human mind can build cities.

An idea can transform the world and rewrite all the rules.

Look beyond what you see with your eyes. For the message of the mass media is not there within plain sight. It is hidden within. It is their ideas they're penetrating into your mind through design. Once that idea have found it's place in your mind, it alters your thinking, it creates a perception.

That is what MTV and Hollywood is doing to our generation.

And I have to admit that although their strategy is genius, their ideas and messages aren't always geared at creating a better global society.

Watch more MTV. Know what is going on. Know the trends. Learn their tricks.

Replicate what they create. Follow.

Then, come up with an idea totally different.

Something you know that they don't have or lack.

That's how you become a trendsetter and not a trend follower.

And that is what makes a great designer.

Be a trendsetter for a better tomorrow.

Environmentally, or for the sake of the health of our generation's minds, or to help promote a cause or an idea that you believe in.

Earn your respect as a designer.

"Go home and watch more MTV."

I took that advice.

And that's how I started developing all these crazy thoughts. hehehe. ;P

Bring the Snow, Please? :)

Hey there :)

Last night I had the weirdest dream.

I dream that I was in Dubai, on holiday with my family and a lot of friends from Malaysia.

Friends from high-school, friends from the rink, friends from church... etc.

The weather was screwed and out of the blue, it started snowing!

We were in the middle of the city and there was like quite a steep slope leading to a skyscraper.

It was snowing so heavily and within minutes the slope already looked like the hill where we went snowboarding in Stockholm.

There were people skiing already. A few girls were doing like some figure skating moves but on skis.

Is there such thing as synchronized skiing?

I wanted to be the cool one and I went to the top and started snowboarding. In my dream, I was actually good! haha! I didn't fall. :D

I went at it again and again and again.

Oh and the good thing was it wasn't tiring like how it is in real life. haha.

I didn't want to wake up because I was having so much fun. :P

Now all I'm thinking about is snowboarding.

I love the designs!

It's weird, but sometimes I'm really grateful for the ability to dream and remember my dreams like this.

The role of a woman.
There is a reason why GOD created men and women.
There is a reason why women were created to bear children.
There is a reason why men weren't.
There is a reason why most men were given physical strength, mechanical intelligence.
There is a reason why most women weren't, but given emotional intelligence instead.

It is unfair to stereotype men and women because every single person is different. Both men and women have dreams to be whatever they want to be in life and I believe no one can stop you from achieving it. The greatest obstacle in achieving what you want is actually yourself and the things you allow yourself to fear.

But today I want to talk about the role of a woman, in my humble opinion.
What I believe I should be. Above all dreams and aspirations, what I truly am to the core is I am a woman (maybe not yet. still a girl ;P but soon to be :D hehe ).
Through my body, will come life someday.
Through my thoughts and my soul, I was made to embrace, to love, to nurture.
I may be an art fanatic, I worship design-architecture-fashion, I admire the geniuses that could come up with such mind-boggling world-changing ideas.
But all my life, since I was a young girl, my one and only female role model was Mother Theresa.
I know it sounds cliche like what some pageant girl would say, but to me, she is the epitome of what a great woman should be.
Her expression of love for the people through her ministry and her care. She gives her life to nurture the poor, to caress the dying in her arms. Her grace and poise. She does all these without asking for anything in return. Not even for the sake of sharing the gospel. Just hoping that she could be there for all people like a mother would.

These days women are so obsessed about proving themselves to the world that they are as good or even better as any men could be. Striving for career advancement, excellence in the material world, asking for equal rights and etc...... it is all good but don't forget when GOD/The Universe created men and women, we were not made to compete with each other, rather we were made to compliment each other.
Women now are well equipped to face the numerous challenges that life throws at us. We are strong. We've learned from mistakes and through example of women in the past. We don't let anything bring us down or get in the way of our dreams.

But don't forget, above all dreams and aspiration, never lose that nurturing nature, that heart that bursts with love and affection. For there is where, you will find the true essence of happiness and fulfilment.

Years go by, times get harder,

people are leaving.

The people dearest to my heart are leaving.

In search for a better life.

I told myself that I never will.

I love my country too much.

The people.

My family, my friends.

The beautiful cultures,

The delicious food.

The humble people,

The smiling faces.

Some of the worlds most beautiful islands,

Summer all year long.

The lush green forests,

The exotic wildlife the never fails to amaze.

The diversity of heritage,

The history of my family.

It's all here.

But recently,

All I'm looking forward to is to leave.

To somewhere where I have the freedom to be myself.

The freedom of speech and of expression.

To a place where I can grow.

To a place where religion doesn't matter.

To a place where fortune and fame isn't the sole priority of the government.

To a place where I can actually trust the cops.

The current state of the country,

it is breaking my heart.

I will leave some day, hopefully.

In search for a better tomorrow.

But I will never forget where I came from.

Malaysia has made me who I am today.

The people are the ones that help crafted me.

And I will be eternally grateful to that.

For that, I will always be proud to be Malaysian.

I hope the leaders of this country learn to embrace the beauty of this nation before they destroy and shatter it to pieces.

The cracks are already forming.

We were so proud and thankful 53 years back when the Union Jack was taken down and the Malaysian flag was raised.

The shouts of "Merdeka!" by our founding father.

There was so much hope then.

Overflowing of hope.

What is my biggest problem?

I NEVER GIVE UP on the things that I really want.

I think about it all the time. Always thinking of how I can get there.

And can't stop thinking until I find a solution.

My mom says that I fantasize too much. Always dreaming of the impossible.

That is my ultimate problem. :(

Some people may say that it is a good trait but I don't think so.

I don't know how to let go.

Even when I've failed time and time again,

and I know I cannot achieve it because of things that are out of my control, but I still try.

I always say, one last shot. Just one last shot.

There will always be one more last shot until I actually get it, I presume. ;)

But what if it is really not mean't to be?

What if it is a sign that I should move on and fill my mind with something else and leave this part of me behind?

Concentrate on things that are more valuable to my future?

Or is it a final hurdle that I need to overcome in order to reap the rewards?

Maybe it is there to test my perseverance?

For myself to know how much it really means to me and is all this failure and disappointments really worth it?

Am I really willing to go through all this again and again but in the end still have hope?

My boss told us yesterday. You have to up your expectations of yourself.

Even if it seems impossible, if you believe, if you put your mind, your soul, all your effort into it, you will achieve it.

If you say you can, then you can.

Just got to believe that you are capable in doing all that you've dreamed to do :)

How have you all been?

I know I haven't been blogging in a while.

I have been so busy with work.

Kinda lost the inspiration to write.

Honestly, kinda lost the inspiration for a lot of other things as well.

Don't know what has gotten into me.

Maybe too many things that have happened.... that brought my spirit down.

I always put on a strong front, saying that everything will be ok when deep down inside it really hurts to be turned away from the things that you want so badly and love so much. I always shut out those feelings and try to be strong and move forward and work harder but somehow those negative feelings, it always manages to creep up on me.

Kinda loss the sense of wonder, of love, of hope, of dreaming....

I kinda want that old version of fairy-tale believing Jacq back.

The girl that smiles for everything and loves everyone that crosses her path,

the girl that looks at the stars and think it is the most beautiful creation ever,

the girl that loves taking pictures and creating art and music,

the girl that dreams of flying to exotic lands, meet people from all walks of life and kiss her one true love under the Eiffel tower.

Hello everyone!

Been so busy with work lately.

Haven't had any time to do anything else!

I'm at the office now. Having some time off to just relax, eat an apple pie :D, read some e-mails.....

blog..... :)

It's been a hectic day. Left the house around 7am plus, sent some documents to be signed here are there around Tropicana area. Then went to Windsor to open the door for the plumber to come and fix the washing machine, then back to office to prepare more paper work, then back to Windsor to check if the washing machine is working fine, went to eat lunch around Hartamas Shopping Center at a cafe called Aji-Don (or something like that), couldn't eat the delicious char kuey teow because my tummy isn't feeling well, so I just ate soup noodles. Then, back to Windsor to get someone to check the meter readings for the unit (which didn't happen because no one was free), then back to office, more paperwork and documents, then to Windsor again to leave some documents, and then now.... RELAX a lil bit..... 7pm have to leave for company dinner at Concorde KL.

Hope my bro doesn't have hockey late tonight.

IF NOT I WILL BE DEAD.

You know how it is...

when you've thought that you've let go of something,

but the fact is that it is still playing in your mind.

You try to forget it. You psycho yourself to forget it.

Because you know it's not good for you.

Makes you loose focus on the course that you've already chosen.

But it is still there.

Shining ever so brightly and nothing you can do to detach yourself from the emotions behind it.

I guess no matter how long it takes, or how hard the road is,

it's your duty to keep that dream alive.

Because some dreams, are never meant to fade away.

It is still bugging you because it is waiting for you to go out there and achieve it.

The Road Not Taken

I remember learning this piece of literature back in high school. I never really took the time to understand and reflect on literature back then. I thought it was too complicated and life-wasting. haha. :P
But somehow this poem have always been in the back of my mind.
It is very beautifully written.
It makes me think of a lush green forest wilting in autumn, with a path that splits into 2. Just like the picture above.
And I think it is so enchanting.

Recent events prompted me to look up this poem again and reading/trying to understand Frost's beautifully crafted sequence of words and sentences, it has affected me in such a warm & fuzzy way :)

Life is all about choices.
Do I believe in fate? No, I don't.
Life will present you with all kinds of situations, one after the other.
Chances my arise.
But what really matters, is what you choose to do.
Do you choose to make the best of it?
One crossroad/split road leads you to another. You will never be back at that exact crossroad again. NEVAHHH! (ahemm.. never)

This man in the poem is lucky. He only had 2 roads to choose from. ;P
The chaos of WW3 goes on in our minds on a daily basis trying to figure out which decisions we should make and what should we do.
EACH option has it's pros and cons.
and EACH option will direct our lives in a totally different direction.
There is always the dilemma of doing 'What I want to do' or 'What I should do.'
I think the man in the poem did what he WANTED to do, therefore the expression of taking the road less traveled. Something not every Tom, Dick and Harry would do. He took a chance, knowing it would be too late to turn back and take the other, if he wanted to.

Along the way he realized that doesn't matter which road he takes, life unveils itself in a similar manner. Not exactly the same, but similar. Whatever we choose to do, we are bound to hurt, to regret, to face disappointments, on a more positive note, we are bound to find pride in the things that we have accomplished, in meeting the different people, in finding some form of joy and excitement, in hoping for a better tomorrow.....

The road less traveled.... is what you make it to be.
Are you strong enough emotionally to find your way through the wilderness of uncertainties?
passionate enough to keep pushing forward and hoping to find your buried treasure even if it takes years and years and years?
calm enough to handle hurdles on your own, that none of your peers have ever had the chance t0 encounter?
and the most important thing......

are u brave enough to take the first step in the very first place?
Because you'll never know what would eventually happen along the way. You might either be on a journey of a lifetime, or you could just end up getting lost.

(this is not an interpretation of the poem. Just the thoughts that came in to my mind while I was reading it.)

One person's beauty is another person's flaw.

One thing that I want to stay true to, and not let peoples judgement influence me on, is who I am as a person.

Whatever dreams I may have, or whatever I want to achieve, is secondary.

Most important thing is, I will not let people tell me what I should look like or how I should dress or what I should do or what choices I should make.

Many times in my life I have forsaken who I am and evolved into the person that someone else expects me to be. Just to be able to fit in in a crowd, to get a job, to keep the person that I obsess about close to me, etc......

I realized that I can never truly find what I want to do unless if I allow myself to be me COMPLETELY.

Moody at times, extremely sarcastic, even more extremely passionate about the things/people I love, art&design fanatic, new wacky experiences seeker, loves crazy jokes, obsessed over world/art/war history - airplanes - trains - tankers - subs - ships - UFOs - but not cars, prone to panic attacks over the smallest weirdest things (I was sent to the emergency ward when Michael Jackson died last year for extreme panic attack-big secret which is out now.... :P and I also start to panic when I see big fishes), caffeine-lactose-wheat intolerant, loner, quiet and boring when thinking (which is most of the time), adventurer me. ;)

There you have it. Thats a summarized intro of who I am if you don't know me personally :)

Recent events had really brought me down. One pathway to my dreams of travelling the world was shut down because of who I choose to be as a person. My identity. Physically. More exactly : my tattoos. I'm not getting them removed so that I can fit into the mold. If that means I have to go the hard way to achieve my dreams, its ok. It will take some time, but I will make it. In style. I'm positive. Gonna work my butt off. :)

Ok I'm going back to sleep now my friends.

The FIFA World Cup is driving my sleeping time wacko.

It's time for FIFA World Cup South Africa 2010!!

Been watching the games till 4.30 every morning now.

Seriously my life revolves around the World Cup for the past one week.

And you know what, Its very unhealthy. I sleep when the sun comes up and wake up when the sun sets. Total reverse of my biological clock and sleeping pattern.

I'm such a dude.

I don't really have ONE favorite team that I'm supporting tho. I normally support the teams that are less likely to win. ;P But today, Portugal did an AMAZING job against DPR Korea with a 7-0 win!

Here is the team with the most beautiful and outstanding outfit. Espanyol! Their jerseys really caught my eye. :)

(the outfit here is for the World Cup qualifiers tho. I think this outfit is even nicer than the ones they're wearing now for the World Cup. :D)

I went to watch ToyStory 3 with my mom last Saturday and it was a brilliant movie! I remember watching ToyStory and ToyStory 2 long time ago when I was still a kid and now watching the 3rd installment years later, it really brings back good childhood memories. :) Woody, Buzz, Jessie, MrPotato and the rest of the gang were so much a part of my life. It was a very emotional movie. Maybe because of how I came to know and love the characters when I was a kid and now see the final outcome of this 3rd installment. It was a very emotional ending. In a good way :))

Ok enough of Toy Story 3. U got to watch it for yourself!

I'm gonna talk about the Short Story before Toy Story 3. Every PIXAR film will have a short story before their movie starts right. For example the one with the birds on the electrical wire.... and one of the latest ones with the trainee alien trying to abduct a boy...

For Toy Story 3, the PIXAR team has done it again with an out of the world concept and storyline and I am so in love with it! The title of it is 'Day & Night'.

Not only the idea is breathtaking, but the story/lesson behind it is really beautiful.

The simple act of accepting one another for who they are and not discriminate because someone else is different from who you are.

You've got to watch it and see for yourself.

The creative minds of the PIXAR team. I respect you.
